Gov't Mule Gallery Spotlight: Nashville, TN - Jan. 28, 2010

Roots-rockers Gov't Mule [ tickets ] like to take a quality-vresus-quantity approach to making albums, and it seems to be paying off. Last July's "By a Thread"--the group's first studio set in three years--reached No. 9 on the The Billboard Top Independent Albums chart.

Recorded at Willie Nelson [ tickets ]'s Pedernales Studios near Austin, TX, "By a Thread" might surprise some followers of The Allman Brothers Band [ tickets ] off-shoot. "This record feels like we're moving between the future and the past," Gov't Mule frontman Warren Haynes said in a recent statement. "We're breaking new ground without forgetting our roots."

Fans can catch Gov't Mule live during the current leg of their US tour through the end of February. This weekend’s shows include tonight (1/29) at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, OH, and Saturday (1/30) at the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, MI.
