Briefly: Beasties, R.E.M., Madonna, EMI-BMG
An exhibition of photographs chronicling the history of Beastie Boys from 1980 to present will be displayed at Gavin Brown's enterprise in New York City from Nov. 16-25, according to a press release from the group. Proceeds from the event will benefit Milarepa, an international, not-for-profit organization founded by the band in 1994 that supports the Tibetan people’s nonviolent struggle to regain their freedom, the release said.
R.E.M. is currently in Miami to continue work on its new album, which is due in spring of 2001, Billboard reported. The band has previously worked on the disc in Vancouver, Dublin and the group’s hometown of Athens, Ga., the report said.
Madonna ’s Nov. 28 concert at London’s Brixton Academy will be aired over the Internet as a live webcast, Reuters reported.
EMI Group has confirmed via its official website that it has “been approached by Bertelsmann regarding a possible combination of Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) [and] EMI.” Bertelsmann recently announced a strategic alliance with Napster. EMI, meanwhile, recently scrapped a planned merger with Time Warner.
