Backstreet Boys will beam into Wal-Mart stores
The home entertainment departments of U.S. Wal-Mart stores will present a satellite broadcast performance by Backstreet Boys on Nov. 21, Wal-Mart announced on Tuesday (11/14). Walmart.com will simultaneously webcast the performance.
Besides musical performances by the band, the exclusive broadcast and webcast will feature behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.
Nov. 21 is the release date of the group's album "Black and Blue." Wal-Mart stores and Walmart.com will sell exclusive special editions of the album that include the bonus track, "What Makes You Different, Makes You Beautiful." The group will perform the bonus song on Nov. 21.
Wal-Mart also announced that it is teaming with eBay to auction the suit worn by Backstreet Boy Nick Carter during the group’s 1999-2000 tour. All members of the group signed the suit, and proceeds from its sale will be donated to the Caroline Dorough-Cochran Lupus Memorial Foundation.
"Black & Blue" (Jive) is the follow-up to the group's 1999 release "Millennium," which has sold more than 13 million copies in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
Backstreet Boys plan to open a world tour in early 2001.
