Charlotte Church settles suit with former manager

LONDON--Adolescent singing sensation Charlotte Church reached a reported £2 million ($3.5 million) settlement with her former manager on Wednesday (11/22) after he had filed a lawsuit against the singer and her family for breach of contract.

Jonathan Shalit discovered the Welsh classical vocalist singing in a pub in 1997 when she was 11. After he was dismissed via fax in January, he sued Church and her family for an estimated £5 million ($7.5 million). Shalit was contracted to manage the singer until 2002.

The man, who secured the deal with Sony Music for her first album “Voice of an Angel” in 1999, was awarded an estimated £2 million ($3.5 million) after lawyers for Shalit, Church and Sony Music reached a settlement two days into the trial which began on Tuesday (11/21).

Church, who has sung for Queen Elizabeth and the Pope, said after the trial: “I’m happy I was able to come to a settlement. Now I can get on with singing, which is what I do best. This has been a horrible year for me and my family. I am glad it is over.”
