Metallica, Ted Nugent Add To New Year's Rock Lineup
Metallica and Ted Nugent have announced plans to play a New Year's Eve concert at the Detroit-area Pontiac Silverdome. Ticket prices have not yet been announced, and tickets are set for sale on October 23rd, according to the show's promoter, Cellar Door/ Belkin.
The pairing is one of many rock events currently in various stages of planning across the country for New Year's Eve, 1999, a date that is already being marketed heavily by event organizers around the world.
According to numerous reports, arenas are currently holding December 31st open for potential shows by the Eagles (Los Angeles), Bruce Springsteen (New Jersey), Jimmy Buffett (Los Angeles), Barbra Streisand (Las Vegas), the Rolling Stones (New York) and countless other groupings of acts. Phish had planned their own major festival in Hawaii for the date, but backed out of those plans in January, citing concerns of fans' ability to make adequate travel arrangements to attend the event.
The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that negotiations are underway for the Rolling Stones to play New Year's Eve at New York's Madison Square Garden, with sources pointing to an average ticket price of $600. Such an average would make room for a significantly higher-priced group of seats close to the stage.
Late last week, reports surfaced that the Eagles plan to play the new Staples Center in Los Angeles. Top ticket prices for the show, which is expected to include a set by longtime friend Jackson Browne, are reportedly in the ballpark of $1,500, though efforts are being made, according to the Times, to keep the average ticket price in the $50 to $100 range.
