Surviving Doors release first of several live recordings
Nearly 30 hours of mostly live material from The Doors' archives will be made available in the coming years by Bright Midnight Records, an Internet-only label formed by the bands surviving members and manager Danny Sugerman.
The first two releases-"The Bright Midnight Sampler: 14 Songs/8 Concerts" and "The Doors Live in Detroit" can now be ordered through the Doors official website. "Sampler" features highlights from eight Doors concerts that took place in 1970; "Live" is a 2-CD set that captures a 1969 Doors performance at Detroits Cobo Arena. The CDs will not be sold in stores.
Bright Midnight Records plans to issue three new albums every six months for a period of six years. The next slated release, titled "No One Here Gets Out Alive," is a recording of the first syndicated Doors radio special where all three surviving members of the Doors were interviewed regarding the death and legacy of frontman Jim Morrison. The show was originally released to 135 radio stations in 1980.
Most of the material being prepared for release was recorded in 1969, when the band was taping its performances for the 1970 release "Absolutely Live." The tapes were discovered while the Doors works, which had been scattered amongst various record company storage facilities, were moved to a single West Hollywood, Calif., location.
Each live disc will be produced by original Doors engineer Bruce Botnick, and will feature concerts in entirety and unedited.
