Dave Matthews talks new album, single
Backstage at the My VH-1 Music Awards show on Thursday night (11/30), Dave Matthews updated reporters on plans for Dave Matthews Band 's upcoming album and tour.
Matthews and band are finishing recording in Los Angeles with producer Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, No Doubt). On Sunday (12/2), the band will launch a two-week tour at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
"We've got an album coming out at the end of Feb. [27], and a single will be out before that, and then it's tour, tour, tour," Matthews said in the press room of the awards show. "The first single, I think, is 'I Did It,' and the name of the album is 'Everyday.'"
The band pushes forward with the renewed blessing of their fans who awarded them Best Live Band honors at Thursday's awards ceremony. "That's our inspiration," Matthews said of the fans who picked the winners of the awards by voting online. "We love to play and we love to play for people."
Early sessions for the album were with producer Steve Lillywhite, who worked on their last three studio albums, but ultimately the band opted to work with Ballard. "We were working at home with our friend Steve Lillywhite," said Matthews. "It's been a great relationship. It still is a great relationship, but we've been together for a long time and we were looking for someone to take us in a new direction."
