Monster Magnet Takes On Club Tour Before Marilyn Manson / Hole Tour Launch
Monster Magnet has developed a notable track record on the tour circuit, nabbing coveted opening-act gigs with both Rob Zombie and Aerosmith in 1998 and recently nailing the opening slot on one of the media-magnet tours of 1999, the pairing of Marilyn Manson and Hole for a springtime tour expected to launch in March.
The New Jersey-based band is working to support their mid-'98 A&M Records release, Power Trip. The band will begin a month-long club tour this week, a coast-to-coast run that will take them from South Carolina to California and back again, winding up in Philadelphia.
The Hole / Manson match-up was first mentioned publicly by Courtney Love while discussing upcoming tour plans at a Los Angeles-area radio station in December. Weeks later, Manson publicly denounced Love, leading some to believe that potential plans for a co-headline tour were dashed.
Last week, as both acts prepared to embark on the Big Day Out tour in Australia, Love called MTV to announce that the US tour was set, and that she and Manson had made up.
Monster Magnet frontman Dave Wyndorf commented on the tour to MTV a couple of days later, ''They'll deliver the goods,'' adding, ''How many rock stars can you fit on one bill? The crowd will be killed by celebrity.''
