Sarah Brightman plans new tour of North America
Soprano Sarah Brightman , who achieved the strongest U.S. chart debut of her 11-year solo recording career with her latest album, "La Luna," (Angel), will open a month-long North American tour on March 3, according to her label.
The theatrical singer concluded a two-month run of North American dates in mid-November. According to Pollstar, her 2000 tour grossed more than $8 million over 38 shows. Brightman is known for her elaborate stage productions, which feature, among other things, Brightman flying across the stage as she sings.
A new Brightman PBS program titled "La Luna in Concert" debuted earlier this month. Her 1998 concert special "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" and 1999's "One Night In Eden" were both staple programs during PBS pledge drives of the last two years. "One Night in Eden" was released as a home video and DVD in 1999, and has sold more than a half-million copies, according to Angel Records.
"La Luna," which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 17, has sold more than 325,000 copies in the U.S. since its Aug. 29 release, according to Billboard. Worldwide, the CD reportedly has sold more than 1.5 million copies.
Four Brightman albums are current among the top 10 on Billboard’s Top Classical Crossover chart: "La Luna" (No. 2), her 1998 releases "The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection" (No. 5) and "Eden" (No. 6), and her 1989 album "The Songs That Got Away" (No. 10).
