George Strait Country Music Festival route confirmed
Dates have been set for the annual George Strait Country Music Festival, a 16-date stadium outing that is now scheduled to begin in Tampa, Fla., on March 24. The festival will make weekend-only stops throughout the U.S. before wrapping up in Texas on June 10.
Tickets for the tour’s first three stops--Tampa, Miami and Phoenix--will go on sale on Feb. 10, according to the festival’s official website.
Singer Sara Evans has been added to the tour’s lineup, which also includes Strait, Alan Jackson , Lonestar , Lee Ann Womack , Brad Paisley and Asleep at the Wheel. “Born to Fly” (RCA), Evans’ latest album, features the hit single of the same name. The track is No. 3 on Billboard’s latest Hot Country Tracks & Singles chart, down from No. 1 the previous week.
“[It's] an all day festival,” said Strait in a press release. “It starts at noon. We have seven acts on the main stage this year and even more in Straitland [a carnival-like midway area]. That's a lot of country music."
The massive festival takes place exclusively on weekends, and requires two separate crews, according to a fact-sheet from tour organizers. One crew begins assembling the Saturday festival’s stage on the preceding Tuesday, and the other begins assembling the Sunday stage on the preceding Wednesday.
Now heading into its fourth year, Strait’s annual festival has played a total of just under 45 stadium dates and has grossed over $90 million in ticket sales alone, according to tour organizers. The festival's previous incarnations have featured acts such as Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks, and Faith Hill, as well as returning acts Lee Ann Womack and Asleep at the Wheel.
