Godsmack conjures up initial U.S. tour dates
update: Godsmack has lined up the first six dates of a headlining tour behind its sophomore album, “Awake” (Universal). The group spent much of last year touring as a support act for artists such as Ozzy Osborne, Stone Temple Pilots and Limp Bizkit.
Tickets for five of Godsmack’s six confirmed shows are set to go on sale on Saturday (1/20). An Internet pre-sale is being held on Friday (1/19), through which tickets can only be accessed using a password. Fans who signed up for Godsmack’s free email newsletter through the band’s official website were sent the password in advance, according to the group’s management.
The Boston-based band’s March 2 performance at the nearby Worcester Centrum went on sale last month, and tickets have already sold out, according to tour promoter SFX Entertainment.
“Awake” was released on Halloween last year, and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The disc is the follow-up to the group’s self-titled, 1998 debut, which was certified triple-platinum in August 2000 for shipping 3 million copies since its release.
“Greed,” the second single from “Awake,” will be released soon, as will a music video for the song, according to the group’s official website. The group is also in the “final stages” of production on a home video that is tentatively set for release in March, the site said.
Godsmack’s impending headlining jaunt comes in the wake of a busy 2000. In addition to releasing “Awake,” the band served as a support act on high-profile outings such as Ozzfest, MTV’s Return of the Rock tour with Stone Temple Pilots and Limp Bizkit’s Anger Management tour.
More dates for Godsmack’s Wake the F**k Up tour will be announced soon, according to the group’s management.
