Three Monkees reunite for U.S. tour

Dubbing themselves the "original boy band," three-quarters of the Monkees are reuniting--once again--for a spring tour that kicks off on March 1. This is the third reunion tour for Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork, who are hitting the road to celebrate their 35 years in the business.

The Monkees have a successful track record when it comes to reunion tours. Their original seven albums bounced back on the charts after Dolenz, Jones and Tork hit the road for their 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour in 1986. (Bandmate Mike Nesmith does not tour with the Monkees.) The same year, the Monkees released a live album and a studio effort, "Pool It." In 1996, the Monkees reunited again for their 30th Anniversary Tour and new album, "Justus."

According to the fan-run Monkees.net website, prior to the tour kick-off, the group is going to re-record its hits for boy-band mogul Lou Pearlman's Trans Continental record label.

Opening for the Monkees' on this tour will be Natural, Pearlman's new group. Like Pearlman's former clients Backstreet Boys and 'NSync, Natural first achieved success in Europe: in the spring of 2000, Natural was featured on the German television series "24 Hours," and the show hit No. 1 in its time slot. On a more familiar note, Natural members Marc Terenzi and "J" Josh Horn lent their voices to "The Simpsons," providing the singing voices of the characters Nelson and Milhouse, respectively. The group has yet to sign a U.S. record deal.

Despite the spring tour, the Monkees' three members are pursuing their solo efforts. Jones recently signed with manager David Fishof, who is hoping to steer Jones' career toward musical theater, according to the Monkees' fan site. Jones is also playing a handful of spot dates through the summer. Tork is touring with Shoe Suede Blues in April and May, and with James Lee Stanley as the Two Man Band duo in early February. Meanwhile, Dolenz is dabbling in film, directing two movies, and touring on his own and with the Teen Idols (he, Bobby Sherman and Peter Noone).
