Elton John, Billy Joel set new Face to Face dates
The co-headlining tour of Billy Joel and Elton John will go on hiatus during the month of March, but a new series of dates is scheduled to get underway in Denver on April 9. Eight cities have been added to the itinerary, and more additions are expected.
Tickets for the tour’s Denver stop are on sale now, and tickets for the other seven new shows are expected to go on sale on Saturday (2/3), according to Joel’s label, Columbia Records.
The piano-playing pop singers are currently in the midst of an 11-city jaunt that focuses on the West Coast. The musicians first toured the U.S. together in 1995 and 1996, and they took the tour overseas in 1998. Like the past concert pairings of Joel and John, this outing is dubbed the Face to Face tour.
The duo typically open shows with a pair of duets--in Salt Lake City earlier this week, they sang John’s “Your Song” and Joel’s “Just the Way You Are,” according to the Deseret News--before playing individual sets. Generally, both will then take the stage for encores.
John and Joel are each among the top draws on the arena circuit in their own right. John’s 2000 tour of North America grossed $18.5 million from 33 shows, according to Pollstar. Joel played only sporadically in 2000, but his 1999 tour grossed $20.5 million from 35 shows, Pollstar reported.
