Soul Train honors D'Angelo, R. Kelly, Jill Scott with nominations
LOS ANGELES--Nominees for the 15th Annual Soul Train Music Awards were announced on Tuesday (1/30) during a press conference on the set of "Soul Train" at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Leading the way with three nominations apiece were R. Kelly , Jill Scott , Carl Thomas and D’Angelo.
Eminem , Mary Mary, Jagged Edge and Lucy Pearl picked up a pair of nods apiece. Show creator Don Cornelius commented on the list of nominees in his trademark gravel tone: “We’ve never been more proud of our results, and I think from the top to the bottom of the list this year, it shows that our voters really know who the players are, which is something we’ve always said.”
Picked by a panel of artists, retail personnel and radio station program directors, the nominees were announced by Jon B., a songwriter and producer (Toni Braxton, Color Me Badd).
The Soul Train Music Awards ceremony will take place Feb. 28 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and will air on March 3rd.
