Jazz veteran Jimmy Smith tours Japan, U.S. and U.K.
Jazz and soul organ master Jimmy Smith, who began his career in 1951, has announced a major international tour which will run from January to July. The string of dates follows the release of Smiths new album "Dot Com Blues," which was released earlier this month.
The 76-year-old Smith, who is noted for his trademark Hammond B3 Organ playing, will kick off the venture at the Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan, on Jan. 29. He plays his first U.S. date at the House of Blues in Cambridge, Mass., on Feb. 16 and ends the tour at Catalinas in Los Angeles on July 22.
"Dot Com Blues," Smiths first new album in five years, features contributions from special guests B.B. King, Etta James, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Keb' Mo', Sweet Pea Atkinson and Sir Harry Bowens, among others.
