The Afghan Whigs [ tickets ] agreed to call it quits on Tuesday (2/6) after 14 years and six albums. The group citied geographical differences as the reason behind the split.

In a band statement released by the Afghan Whigs' label, Columbia Records, the group gave a short farewell. "It was a blast. We’d like to thank everyone who took the ride with us and let us ride with them."

Originally formed in Cincinnati, only bassist John Curley and drummer Michael Horrigan still call the city home--guitarist Rick McCollum lives in Minneapolis and frontman Greg Dulli lives in Los Angeles.

Dulli is currently working on a follow-up to the debut Twilight Singers album, which was released last fall. No word was immediately available regarding the future plans of the other three band members.

The Afghan Whigs last album, "1965," was released in 1998.
