Godsmack extends upcoming outing into late March
Godsmack has added 10 more dates to its upcoming U.S. tour that extend the run to March 20. The group is scheduled to begin its outing in support of its sophomore release, “Awake” (Universal), on Feb. 26.
“Awake” is the follow-up to Godsmack’s 1998 multi-platinum, self-titled debut. The new album’s title track is currently No. 1 on Radio & Records’ active rock chart, which measures national radio airplay.
The group’s sold-out March 2 show in its native Massachusetts will be filmed for use in a VHS/DVD release and a possible television program, according to the band’s official website.
The Boston-based group recently garnered seven nominations for the upcoming Boston Music Awards--the most nominations of any act this year--including album, single, song and video of the year for “Awake,” and a Male Vocalist of the Year nod for frontman Sully Erna. The event is scheduled to take place at Boston’s Orpheum Theater on April 19.
Fellow Massachusetts band Staind has been tapped to open for Godsmack on all of the upcoming dates. Staind’s major-label debut, “Dysfunction” (Elektra), co-produced by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, hit stores in April of 1999. A follow-up release titled “Break the Cycle” is expected this spring, according to the group’s official website.
Staind frontman Aaron Lewis and Durst currently have a radio hit in "Outside," a live performance that was taped during 1999's Family Values outing, and that appears on last year's compilation album from that tour.
Additional acts Cold and Systematic will also occupy opening slots on Godsmack’s upcoming tour.
