Sting's tour returns to the U.S. in May

Sting ’s marathon world tour--which has been on the road with few breaks since late 1999--will return to the United States this spring for a series of May dates. Grammy-nominated R&B singer Jill Scott has been tapped as the show opener.

Eight U.S. stops have been confirmed, and ticket on-sale dates have been set for half of the upcoming shows. Tickets for the May 5 kick-off are set to go on sale on Saturday (3/3), and tickets for the May 19 stop in Auburn Hills, Mich., will hit the box office on Monday (3/5), according to tour organizers.

It was unknown at press time if more U.S. dates will be added. A final itinerary will be available on Monday (3/5), according to a spokesperson.

Following his upcoming U.S. run, Sting is scheduled to head to Europe for an extensive outing that will begin in late May and run through late July, according to Interscope Records.

Sting is in the midst of a world tour in support of 1999’s “Brand New Day.” The album was certified triple-platinum in January by the Recording Industry Association of America, marking 3 million copies shipped in the U.S. since its release.

Scott is currently on a solo outing in support of her debut album, last year’s "Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. 1" (Hidden Beach). The singer was recently nominated for Grammys in the Best New Artist, Best R&B Female Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Album categories.
