Duncan Sheik sets dates to support theater-inspired album
Singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik has lined up his first series of dates in support of his third record, "Phantom Moon" (Nonesuch Records). The tour kicks off on April 9 in Minneapolis, and runs through mid-May.
"Phantom Moon," which hit stores on Feb. 27, is Sheik's first collaborative effort. Last year, New York playwright Steven Sater asked Sheik if he would write lyrics based on his play "Umbrage;" the result was the new album.
Theater has been running in Sheiks blood. Last summer, he and Sater were commissioned by the La Jolla Playhouse--on the University of California, San Diego campus--to create a new musical version of German playwright Frank Wedekinds 1891 classic "Spring Awakening."
The mostly acoustic "Phantom Moon" is the follow-up to 1998s "Humming" (Atlantic). Sheiks 1996 self-titled debut spawned the Top 20 hit "Barely Breathing."
