Coldplay announces U.S. shows, calls off European dates
Riding on the success of its melancholy hit "Yellow," Coldplay has announced the first batch of dates for its U.S. tour.
Although Coldplay announced on Thursday (3/22) that it was canceling most of its European dates--scheduled to begin on April 1--due to singer Chris Martin‘s vocal problems, the U.S. dates are still on, the band's spokesperson said. The cancelations currently do not affect the UK dates scheduled for April 23-30.
The spring-summer tour of North America kicks off on May 24 in Boston. Grandaddy is slated to open the shows.
According to its spokesperson, Coldplay will perform on April 9 at New York’s Roseland Ballroom while in town make an April 7 appearance on "Saturday Night Live." The Roseland show is a make-up date for a Feb. 16 gig that Coldplay was forced to cancel due to illness.
The Brit-rock quartet is touring in support of its U.S. debut "Parachutes" (Nettwerk/Capitol).
