Barenaked Ladies set summer amphitheater dates
Barenaked Ladies will follow an upcoming break from their busy touring schedule with an extensive U.S. outing that kicks off in mid-July. The stateside run will be preceded by one date in the group’s native Canada.
More dates will be added to the group’s itinerary soon, according to a spokesperson.
East Coast-based Vertical Horizon has been tapped to open the tour’s July 12-Aug. 3 stops, while Scottish pop-rock duo the Proclaimers will step into the opening slot beginning Aug. 6.
Barenaked Ladies are currently touring Europe, and are scheduled to wrap up that leg of their road trip in early April. The group's last pass through North America took place in February and March, with a majority of shows set in Canada.
The band's album "Maroon” (Reprise) was released last September. The disc debuted at No. 5 and was certified platinum last October. In early March, the group won three Juno Awards--the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys--for its work on “Maroon,” including Best Album and Best Pop Album.
On March 20, the group released an enhanced CD-single version of “Too Little Too Late,” the second radio track off of “Maroon,” according to its official website. The disc contains the song and its accompanying music video, as well as a remixed version of the album's first, Grammy-nominated single, “Pinch Me.”
Vertical Horizon's latest album is 1999's major-label debut, “Everything You Want” (BMG/RCA). The disc features the hit singles “You’re a God,” “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)” and the title track.
The Proclaimers --who are best known for their 1988 song “I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)”--which was featured in the 1993 Johnny Depp film “Benny & Joon”--are set to release a new album this spring, their first in seven years. A free MP3 titled “No Particular Place to Go” is currently available at the group’s official website.
