Living Colour gears up for reunion tour
Living Colour , who reunited last December for a surprise concert in New York City, will set out on a full-fledged U.S. and European tour this year. The outing--the group’s first since disbanding six years ago--will begin in May with a series of dates in the Western U.S.
Additional tour dates will be announced soon, according to a group spokesperson. The group is discussing the possibility of a new album, but no concrete plans have been made, the spokesperson added.
On Dec. 21 of last year, band members Vernon Reid (guitar), Corey Glover (vocals), Will Calhoun (drums) and Doug Wimbish (bass) played a surprise reunion show at New York City club CBGB’s. An hour-long video stream of the concert is currently available via Glover’s official website.
Living Colour burst onto the rock scene in 1988 with its debut album “Vivid,” featuring the hit single “Cult of Personality.” The song peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in May of 1989, and went on to win a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album has been certified double-platinum.
“Time’s Up” followed in 1990, with the title-track garnering the group its second Grammy for Best Hard Rock performance.
The group’s third and final studio album, “Stain,” was released in 1993. Work had just begun on a fourth LP when Reid announced that he was pursuing other interests, and that the group was disbanding.
“Mistaken Identity” (Sony/550), Reid’s solo debut, was released in 1996. Glover released a solo album--“Hymns” (Arista)--in 1998, and has since been fronting an outfit named Vice.
Calhoun and Wimbish--who replaced original bassist Muzz Skillings in 1992--went on to release solo albums as well, and most recently worked together in rapper Mos Def’s backing band.
