American Hi-Fi leads MTV Campus Invasion tour
Bostons American Hi-Fi is heading up this springs MTV Campus Invasion tour, which hits 16 northeastern U.S. colleges and universities through mid-April. The tour, which also features Saliva and Sum 41, begins March 30 in Garden City, N.Y.
For the first time, MTV has recruited an up-and-coming act to headline the tour. Previous participants include Third Eye Blind and Eve 6 (fall 1998), Sugar Ray and Orgy (spring 1999), Garbage and Lit (fall 1999), Bush and Moby (spring 2000) and Wyclef Jean, De La Soul and Black Eyed Peas (fall 2000).
Featuring vocalist Stacy Jones, the former drummer for Letters to Cleo and Veruca Salt, American Hi-Fi is gaining considerable airplay with the track "Flavor of the Weak," from the band's self-titled debut. The group recently wrapped up a tour with VAST and Eve 6.
Saliva will spend the rest of its spring opening for Crazy Town, while Sum 41--whose debut "Half Hour of Power" hit stores last year--will jump on the Warped Tour this spring.
All the bands are signed to Def Jam/Island.
