Detroit's electronic music fest returns on Memorial Day weekend

After attracting more than 1.5 million fans last year, the Detroit.Electronic.Music.Festival is bringing back the free Memorial Day weekend event, this time with headliner De La Soul.

From noon to midnight on May 26-28, four stages at the city’s riverfront Hart Plaza will house performances by more than 70 artists, including Tortoise, Autechre, Derrick May, Inner City, LTJ Bukem, Kid Koala, and Beastie Boys’ DJ Mixmaster Mike.

Founded by Detroit techno artist Carl Craig, the inaugural Detroit.Electronic.Music.Festival was held last year. The event was captured on film as "The Drive Home: The Story of the Detroit.Electronic.Music.Festival," which begins screening in the spring.
