Beck opens the summer on the European festival circuit

Alt-rocker Beck will open his summer on the European festival circuit, but the heretofore prolific artist still hasn't unveiled a release date for a follow-up to his 1999 album "Midnite Vultures" (DGC).

Beck will open his European tour on June 23 in Dublin, and will conclude his jaunt in Spain about three weeks later. No U.S. tour plans have been confirmed, but Beck is among the artists scheduled to perform during a tribute to folk music curator Harry Smith, who compiled the landmark 1952 album "Anthology of American Folk Music." (The album was re-released by Smithsonian Folkways in 1997.) The tribute takes place on April 25 and 26 at Royce Hall in Los Angeles, and will also feature Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, and Mary Margaret O'Hara. According to his official website, Beck has been sporadically recording material intended for a new album, but no release date has been set.

He has been keeping busy with other projects, however. Beck reportedly has recorded a version of David Bowie's "Diamond Dogs" with producer Timbaland for the new Baz Luhrann movie "Moulin Rouge," which is due out this summer. Beck has also recorded tracks for upcoming tribute albums to Hank Williams and Mississippi John Hurt.

In February, a CD collecting various b-sides and remixes was released via Beck's e-commerce website.
