Slipknot suits up for spring and summer outings

Slipknot will warm up for its run on the upcoming Ozzfest tour with a handful of U.S. dates in May, followed by an extensive European outing. The group’s next album is due out in June.

The masked heavy-metal outfit has planned five early May dates that will precede its May-June tour of the European festival circuit. The Euro jaunt includes a May 26 stop in Milton Keynes, England, where the group will appear during Ozzfest’s only U.K. date.

The nine-member band will wrap things up in Europe in early June, and will have only a few days off before hitting the road again as part of the mainstage lineup for Ozzfest’s North American summer run.

Slipknot’s last outing took place last fall, when the band played a short string of U.S. dates. A longer outing had originally been planned, but was scrapped when one of the group’s members collapsed in an airport, was subsequently diagnosed with exhaustion and was ordered by doctors to take a break from the road. The band’s members wear masks during their performances, and some have reportedly passed out during the group’s sets because of the heat and poor ventilation that the masks provide.

Last August, a Slipknot show at Ireland's Point Theatre was canceled after an Irish parents' group protested the show. The concert's promoter claimed that the cancellation was due to poor ticket sales, but the band's label said that three quarters of the tickets had been sold.

The group’s yet-untitled forthcoming album will be the follow-up to its self-titled 1999 debut. That album peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard 200 album chart last May, and was certified platinum that same month.
