Briefly News and Comment: Spinal Tap, V2001, Sandy Bull obit
plus: "Uh, he really doesn't talk to Spin. You know, Spin really doesn't cover us anymore."
Spinal Tap will be playing New York's Carnegie Hall on June 4 as part of the Toyota Comedy Festival.
The British rock festival V2001, to be held at Chelmsford's Highlands Park and Stafford's Weston Park on August 18 and 19, will feature Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and David Gray, among others, Qonline reported.
Guitarist-composer Sandy Bull died on April 11 at age 60, the New York Times reported. His friend Jeff Hanna of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band reportedly said that cancer was the cause of death.
From Spin.com's interview with Sonic Youth 's Kim Gordon:
Spin: You were also a very influential band. You were a huge influence on Nirvana, which was the punk band that has become the most mainstream and successful. What do you think about that?K: Well, there were a lot of bands around in the '80s that influenced people... Like Meat Puppets and Minutemen and Black Flag, and you know, I've heard people in Rolling Stone [magazine] talk about how the '80s was such a dead period in rock or something. But there was so much going on in the independent music scene, you know, amazing records and singles and things like that.
Spin: Would [Sonic Youth's] Thurston [Moore] maybe want to talk for a couple of minutes?
K: Uh, he really doesn't talk to Spin. You know, Spin really doesn't cover us anymore.
