Phil Lesh and Friends line up summer shows with Ratdog, Allman Brothers
Phil Lesh and Friends have named a number of opening acts for their upcoming summer run, and the roster includes Ratdog . The latter act is fronted by Leshs former--and, in recent years, estranged--Grateful Dead bandmate Bob Weir. The group has also added to its itinerary four August co-headlining dates with the Allman Brothers.
Ratdog--as well as Willie Nelson, Les Claypools Frog Brigade, the String Cheese Incident, the Disco Biscuits, Hot Tuna, Galactic and moe--will open for Lesh and Friends on various June and July dates. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
The pairing of Leshs and Weirs outfits marks the first such union since Lesh distanced himself from both Weir and the Deads Mickey Hart in 1999 because he disagreed with Weirs and Harts handling of digitizing the Deads catalog.
Lesh has posted his thoughts about each of his opening acts on his official website; his comments about Weir, coupled with Ratdogs opening slot on Leshs tour, indicate that the rift between the former bandmates has been settled.
I have known and loved Bob Weir for 36 years and still find him one of the most innovative musicians in rock, Lesh said. His new album is full of great songs and exciting playing.
Ratdogs Evening Moods was released last September. The group recently completed a U.S. theatre tour in support of the album, and a one-off show is set to take place on May 4 at San Franciscos Warfield Theater.
Details on purchasing mail-order tickets to both Lesh and Friends summer tour and Ratdogs upcoming San Francisco performance can be found at the Grateful Dead ticketing services website.
Following their June and July headlining run, Lesh and Friends will co-headline four dates in the South with the Allman Brothers. The two groups will alternate delivering the closing set, and guitarist-vocalist Warren Haynes will be playing full, two-hour sets with both bands.
Phil Lesh and Friends wrapped up the most recent leg of their current tour on Monday night (4/30) in New York City.
