Scott Weiland Arrested For Probation Violation
Formerly estranged Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland was arrested Friday in Los Angeles for violation of probationary terms surrounding his September, 1997 arrest for heroin possession. Weiland failed to provide his court-ordered drug treatment center with a urine sample on Thursday (1/14), triggering notification of the District Attorney's office. When Weiland and his attorney coincidentally arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday to address Weiland's driving priveleges, deputies took the singer into custody.
Weiland is currently being held in the Los Angeles County Jail without bail pending an appearance before a judge on Wednesday (1/20), during which he may be sentenced to extended probation time or given a jail sentence. The singer accepted in August a sentence of 90 days live-in treatment and three years of probation after pleading guilty to possession of a small amount of heroin and a hypodermic needle in 1997.
Legal representatives for Weiland are scheduled appear in a New York court on Friday to deal with a separate heroin possession charge that derailed his solo tour in June of 1998. That tour took place during a hiatus between the singer and the rest of the Stone Temple Pilots, who formed the short-lived band Talk Show while waiting for Weiland to clean up his act and resume his role in STP.
Recently, Weiland has said that he is back in the STP fold, and that he expects to participate in both a summer tour and a new album with the band this year.
