Pet Shop Boys, Sinead O'Connor headline first Wotapalava tour
The Pet Shop Boys , Sinead O’Connor, Rufus Wainwright , Soft Cell and Magnetic Fields are teaming up for the Wotapalava tour, which is being billed as the first major pop music festival to target a gay and lesbian audience.
The tour, which kicks off on July 13 in Miami, Fla., and wraps up on Aug. 11 in Texas, features two stages, as well as an after-concert dance party hosted by club DJs. More details will be announced at a press conference scheduled for May 30.
"Wotapalava will be a celebration of individuality and the freedom to be what you want to be," Pet Shop Boy and Wotapalava creator Neil Tennant said in a press release. "This is not exclusively an issue of sexuality; it’s about having the power to live as you want."
PlanetOut.com and Gay.com, online communities for gays and lesbians, will sponsor Wotapalava. The websites are offering presale tickets for the first six dates--Miami, Atlanta, Wantagh, N.Y., Boston, Washington, D.C., and Holmdel, N.J. The presale tickets for the rest of the tour will go on sale on June 1. The first 500 people to purchase top price-level tickets through the sites receive a $5 discount.
"Wotapalava" is an English phrase that means "what a fuss about nothing."
