Blues Traveler sets up second leg of tour
The day before the tour's kick-off, Blues Traveler frontman John Popper is scheduled to appear at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom as part of the second annual Jammys, a jam-band award ceremony. There, Popper is to perform with the Disco Biscuits. Other performers will include Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade, the Del McCoury Band and Soulive. More information about the event can be found at JamBands.com.
Blues Traveler’s latest album, “Bridge” (Interscope), was released in early May and debuted at No. 91 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album is group's sixth studio release, and is the follow up to 1997's platinum release "Straight on Till Morning."
As noted in an Interscope press release, "Bridge" comes in the wake of "changes in the band's lineup" and "changes in the band's appearance." Original bassist Bobby Sheehan died of a drug overdose in 1999, and was replaced by current bassist Tad Kinchla, brother of the group's guitarist, Chan. Characteristically obese frontman John Popper, meanwhile, had his stomach stapled, and has since dropped 180 pounds.
