Stones Pleased As Ex-Employee Ventura Decrees "Rolling Stones Day"

Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura issued a proclamation making Monday (2/15) Rolling Stones Day in Minnesota, in honor of the band's return to the state to perform a show at the Target Center Monday night. Ventura, a former bodyguard for the band in the late 70's and early 80's, had a high-profile career in professional wrestling where he was nicknamed "The Body" before embarking on a winning campaign for the governorship of the state.

As Stones frontman Mick Jagger arrived via private jet for the concert, a publicist showed him the proclamation which, among other things, honored the band for ''Keith Richards still being alive.''

''He's done us proud, hasn't he?'' said Jagger as he greeted reporters. ''He's been fantastic.'' Jagger added, ''He's done it very funny and been very lighthearted about the whole thing but it's obviously very nice for us.''

During the show later on, the members of the band acknowledged Ventura standing near the stage and each member shook his hand as they headed to the mid-arena satellite stage midway through the show. According to a report in the Star Tribune, while introducing the song Respectable, Jagger joked that after honors by Ventura and the mayor of St. Paul, the Stones had themselves become just that.
