Beatles Star Quietly Replaced On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
The Beatles were honored for the second time on Christmas morning as workers replaced their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The legendary British band was originally honored with a star in 1994, but the honor was short-lived as Capitol Records, the label that distributes the Beatles' catalog in the US, had the star removed weeks later.
The removal, according to an AP report, was based on the label's concern that the installation of the star be accompanied by a ceremony attended by at least one member of the band. For nearly five years, the invitation stood for either Paul McCartney, George Harrison or Ringo Starr to attend such a ceremony, and the invitation was declined.
The fourth member of the group, John Lennon, was killed in 1980, and has since been honored with his own star near the Capitol Records building.
Johnny Grant, Chairman of the Hollywood Walk of Fame committee and the city's honorary mayor, told AP on Friday (12/25), ''Santa and I thought it was time to respond to the Beatles' fans request for a chance to honor the Fab Four. The star has been in my office for a long time.''
The Beatles' star was placed next to Elvis Presley's star near the gateway to the city's famed Hollywood Boulevard.
