Black Sabbath cancels headlining tour

update: Black Sabbath --which tops the bill on this year's already-underway Ozzfest tour--has canceled its subsequent headlining tour of the Northeast. According to a spokesperson for the group, Epic records has “insisted” that frontman Ozzy Osbourne return to the studio following the Ozzfest tour to finish recording his follow-up to 1995’s “Ozzmosis.”

The Black Sabbath tour was scheduled to kick off on either Aug. 14 or Aug. 15, with Disturbed in the opening slot. Ozzfest got underway early last month, and is scheduled to run until Aug. 12.

The new Ozzy Osbourne album is being produced by Tim Palmer (U2, Robert Plant, Pearl Jam), and features returning Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, former Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin and Suicidal Tendencies bassist Robert Trujillo. An Oct. 16 release date has been set, the spokesperson said.
