Living Colour plots new round of U.S. dates

Living Colour will follow up its recent run on the European festival circuit with a short series of U.S. club dates in early August. The group, which reunited late last year, will visit cities throughout the Northeast beginning on Aug. 1.

The upcoming run is the second leg of the group’s U.S. club tour, which began with a brief, sold-out run of West Coast clubs in May. South American tour dates followed in June.

The group’s set list on the current tour includes both previously released songs from the band’s three studio albums--1988’s “Vivid,” 1990’s “Time’s Up” and 1993’s “Staind”--as well as new material, according to a spokesperson.

Last December, Living Colour--Vernon Reid (guitar), Corey Glover (vocals), Will Calhoun (drums) and Doug Wimbish (bass)--reunited for a surprise show at New York City club. The event marked the group’s first live performance in about six years.

In 1995, Reid announced that he was breaking up the group. All of the band members pursued other projects.

The group has discussed the possibility of recording a new album, but no definite plans have been made, according to a spokesperson. Calhoun and Wimbish, whose pre-reunion gig found them backing Mos Def, are currently performing with the rapper in Japan, while Reid is planning some dates with former Cream bassist Jack Bruce. Glover, meanwhile, recently completed a role in the upcoming independent film "Reunion 81."

Living Colour gained widespread notoriety for the “Vivid” track “Cult of Personality,” which garnered the group its first of two Grammy awards for Best Hard Rock Performance. The group also won in that same category with the title track from “Time’s Up.”
