Ween stays busy with recording projects and summer tour

Gene and Dean Ween will spend the latter part of their summer touring the U.S., primarily playing club and festival dates. The irreverent alt-rock duo has been spending its time on a number of different musical projects, but will not be touring in support of a new album.

The duo will begin its summer tour schedule with a late July date in Pennsylvania, where it will headline a benefit for a volunteer fire-fighting company. Tickets to the event--dubbed the Science Fair--will only be available at the gate on the day of the show, according to organizers.

Ween will then log a two-night stand at a Massachusetts club in early August and a two-night stand at an Alaskan resort in mid-August before beginning a non-stop string of dates throughout the West that runs into early September. One late October college performance is also scheduled.

The group has launched its own ticketing service through its official website, and is charging a flat-rate service fee of $3 above face value on all tickets.

The group recently completed a cover version of the Atlanta Rhythm Section’s “Champagne Jam” that will turn up in the forthcoming New Line Cinema film “Run, Ronnie, Run.” The two members are also working with Yamatsuka Eye and Yoshimi--of Japanese rock act the Boredoms--on the second Z Rock Hawaii album, to be released on former Faith No More frontman Mike Patton’s Ipecac Records; no date has been set.

Ween completed re-mastering its first album, 1990’s “GodWeenSatan: The Oneness,” and plans to have the new version--which will also feature “two and a half bonus tracks,” according to the group’s website--in stores within the next few weeks.

Ween’s most recent release is last year’s “White Pepper.” The duo continues to create music for the Fox television series “Grounded for Life.”
