Smashmouth frontman Steve Harwell has co-founded Spun Out Records, Variety reported.

The label has reportedly signed "San Francisco-based pop-rock group Fuse, rap-rock outfit Triple Seven, metal act Soul Circle and pre-teen country-pop singer Brittany Breed."

ZDNet reported that, in the last few weeks, internet service providers (ISPs) have been receiving an increase in requests to shut out subscribers who use file-trading services like Gnutella and iMesh.

According to the article, "Driven by a combination of high-profile summer movie releases and a growth in the business of independent piracy hunters, these requests are putting service providers in an awkward position. Even as they avoid facing media-industry lawyers, these ISPs risk losing their customers to competing Internet access companies that may be less aggressive about curtailing the use of file-trading software."

Time.com columnist Chris Taylor sings the praises of Morpheus, perhaps the next big file-trading service for people who want whatever music they want, whenever they want it, and for free:

Like its namesake (Lawrence Fishburne's character in The Matrix), Morpheus has appeared almost out of nowhere to lead true believers into a different (and to some, terrifying) world. Here in Morpheus' private matrix, music files are free, easy to find, superfast to download. And unlike its doomed predecessor Napster, Morpheus is likely to escape the long arm of the Agents (a.k.a. music industry lawyers). In other words, it is The One.

... There's no off-putting server sign-on sequence like in the Gnutella programs. No lengthy process of scanning for music on your machine like Aimster makes you go through. Just a search page that returns results at a speed not seen since Napster. ...

Someone named Joey Muran has sent out an email encouraging fans of Lucinda Williams to seed online communities with fake e-discussion starters such as (and this is fun to say out loud):

Hey I have been really getting into Essence by Lucinda Williams, has anyone heard the album yet? She is on the new label Lost Highway which has some other cool artists too. The site has all the information on Lucinda Williams ... stop by and give it a try

We would like to encourage fans of liveDaily Briefly to perform a similar service for us. Here are some good icebreakers:
