The Eagles To Reunite For New Year's Eve Performance
The Eagles have been named as the headline act for the inaugural New Year's Eve concert at Los Angeles' new Staples Center, according to a press release issued Wednesday (5/6) by Eagles publicist Larry Solters. The classic rock radio mainstays join fellow Asylum Records alumni Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt for a show that Staples officials say will cap a three-month Grand Opening celebration for the venue, which has yet to announce any other bookings.
Ticket prices for the show will be scaled to nine different levels -- $1,000, $750, $500, $350, $200, $150, $125, $75 and $50. According to a Variety report, higher-priced packages, possibly including premium seating and private party access are under consideration.
The high end of the price spectrum, while remarkable for a rock event, manages to pale next to the current high mark established by Barbra Streisand's recently announced New Year's Eve concert at Las Vegas' MGM Grand, which tops off at $2,500.
Interestingly, the balance was much the same in 1994, when the Eagles played together publicly for the first time in 14 years, embarking on their ''Hell Freezes Over'' tour. As that tour raised the bar on arena rock show prices by hitting the $125 mark in some cities, Streisand began a rare tour that comanded top prices of $300, an unheard of sum for a concert ticket at the time. Both tours subsequently played to sold-out houses with little resistance from their respective fan bases.
The Eagles, Browne and Ronstadt appeared on each other's recordings and often performed in concert together in the mid-70's as three of the key acts signed to David Geffen's Asylum label. Browne is credited as a co-writer on the Eagles' hits Take It Easy and James Dean.
Tickets for the concert are scheduled to go on sale May 16th.
