Ben Folds readies for solo tour, album release
Pianist-singer Ben Folds , namesake of the now defunct Ben Folds Five, is embarking on a solo jaunt in support of his debut record, "Rockin' the Suburbs."
His tour begins on Sept. 7 with the first of two shows in Carrboro, N.C., and will wrap up on the West Coast on Oct. 15.
Before the tour gets under way, he will perform on Aug. 10 as part of Atlanta radio station 99X's On the Bricks free concert series.
"Rockin' the Suburbs" (Epic) hits stores on Sept. 11. According to a press release, Folds' debut solo effort couples his "kamikaze" piano playing with melodic "Broadway-style bravado."
Ben Folds Five released four albums, most recently 1999's "The Autobiography of Reinhold Messner" (Sony 550).
