D12, Esham pulled from Warped after fight

A scuffle outside the Tweeter Center in Camden, N.J., involving the long-feuding Detroit rappers Esham and D12 has led Warped tour organizers to kick both acts off of the tour.

Esham Smith--who performs under the name Esham--told police that members of D12 and their associates attacked him and his partner, Terry "T.N.T." Jones, at about 6 p.m. on Friday (8/3). Esham claimed they were assaulted with fists, bottles and chains.

According to police, Esham suffered a dislocated nose, scrapes and cuts, though a press release issued by Esham's spokesperson said that the rapper's injuries also included a bruised eardrum and a temporary loss of hearing. Esham was treated and released from a nearby hospital following the incident. Jones suffered only cuts and bruises, police said.

"I look at it like they were attempting to take our life--it was actually attempted murder," Esham told WPVI-TV news shortly after the incident. "It was just a blatant attempt to sabotage our positioning at the Warped tour, for no apparent reason other reason than that they don't want the truth to get out about them and their group--that they're all phonies and that they're all cowards."

In a posting to the D12 World website, D12 member Proof seems to have admitted to the attack, but claimed that Esham and T.N.T. provoked it by throwing "some s--- at [our] bus. I [hopped] off and D12 followed and we whooped him and TNT['s] ass and Esham tried to run and leave TNT but he was brave and come back and got f---ed up then tried to tell da cops and s---."

Though Eminem is a member of D12, he is not touring with the group. Esham has claimed that his problems with D12 began several years ago after he was attacked by associates of the group after upstaging them. The two camps have often launched verbal barbs--in interviews and in song--at each other in the ensuing years.

In a recent liveDaily interview, D12 member Swift said that he thought Esham was using Eminem and D12 to gain publicity for himself--and, in fact, Esham's publicist issued a press release before the rapper joined the tour that focused on the tensions between the Esham and D12 camps.

"Esham's in the same city," Swift said in the liveDaily interview. "He's dissing [Eminem's] daughter, he's dissing his ex-wife. He's dissing Eminem for no reason except to make us talk about him again. ... It's a publicity stunt. ... Eminem doesn't even know him. He doesn't have any kind of excursion with him. They never hung out."
