They Might Be Giants set album release, tour dates
They Might Be Giants will release their first traditionally distributed studio album in five years on Sept. 11, and will take to the road to support it.
The tour, which will feature keyboardist John Linnell, guitarist John Flansburgh and the "band of Dans" (guitarist Dan Miller, bassist Dan Weinkauf, and drummer Dan Hickey) is currently scheduled to run through October, but more dates are expected.
The new album, "Mink Car," was produced by Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger and Clive Langer, who also worked on the groups 1990 album "Flood" (Elektra). The band's previous release, "Long Tall Weekend," was released exclusively on the Internet through Emusic.com, and it also offered a subscription series called "TMBG Unlimited" though the same site.
TMBG's music can also be heard on a disc of music packaged with Issue 6 of McSweeney's, a literary journal edited by author Dave Eggers. TMBG contributed 37 of the CD's 45 tracks, which range in length from eight seconds to about three minutes.
