Powerman 5000 cancels tour, postpones album

Powerman 5000 has canceled its fall tour and postponed the release of its new record, "Anyone for Doomsday?"

Tickets for the tour, which was slated to start on Sept. 6 in Kansas City, can be refunded at point of purchase.

In a press release, lead singer-songwriter Spider One said of the cancellation, "As we were nearing completion on the album in the studio, I was continuing to write songs that I felt belonged on 'Anyone for Doomsday?' At that point, we should've put the brakes on the project, taking the proper time to finish these new songs and record them. But because the album was scheduled for release in conjunction with the fall tour, we felt pressure to deliver 'Doomsday' on deadline, all of which was causing the band and I great agony."

In the same statement, Spider One apologized to his fans as well as to the bands Saliva, Machinehead, Halfcocked and Stereomud, all of whom were scheduled to open for PM5K on its tour.

DreamWorks Records had scheduled "Anyone for Doomsday?" for an Aug. 28 release. No new release date was given.

Powerman 5000 already has dropped the album's first single, "Bombshell." It will appear on the soundtrack to the MTV-WWF television show "Tough Enough" (DreamWorks), beginning on Oct. 2.

The canceled dates are listed below.
