Oysterhead plans fall album release and tour

Oysterhead --a jam-band supergroup of sorts that includes Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio , Primus bassist Les Claypool and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland--will tour this fall to support its debut album.

The band is scheduled to play a warm-up show in New Haven, Conn., on Sept. 14, and will perform in New York City on the following night as a part of CMJ's Music Marathon. The full-blown tour then begins on Oct. 21 in Seattle, and a month of dates are scheduled.

"The Grand Pecking Order" (Elektra), Oysterhead 's first album, hits stores on Oct. 2, according to the band's official website. The first single, titled "Mr. Oysterhead," is scheduled to reach radio on Sept. 5.

Oysterhead played its first gig in May 2000 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Claypool pulled the group together at the request of Superfly Productions, a New Orleans-based promoter.

"Oysterhead was massively huge--we sold out 3,000 seats in, like, 12 minutes," Claypool told liveDaily in a January interview. "Tickets on eBay were going for two grand. Francis Ford Coppola was out in the audience--actually he was sitting on the side of the stage. It was just an insane scene. I was freaking out."

According to the Oysterhead website, tickets for the October and November dates will be available through Oysterhead.com's secure on-line ticketing system for six days only, beginning on Aug. 23.
