'NSync won't appear at Michael Jackson tribute
'NSync, which was scheduled to perform with the guest of honor during a Sept. 7 tribute to Michael Jackson at New York's Madison Square Garden, will not appear at the event due to scheduling conflicts, producer David Gest announced on Wednesday (8/22).
"Due to scheduling conflicts, Michael Jackson and 'NSync will not have time to rehearse the 'Dancing Machine' number with the Jacksons in the way Michael planned to present it," Gest said in a statement. "Unfortunately, 'NSync will be rehearsing their MTV Video Music Awards performance ... while Michael will be rehearsing for his shows at the Garden. The two schedules just conflict and 'NSync will not be in New York prior to that. Michael looks forward to working with 'NSync in the future as he is a very big fan of the group."
The sold-out Michael Jackson tribute shows--to take place on Sept. 7 and 10--were organized in celebration of Jackson's 30th anniversary as a solo performer.
The events will mark Jackson's first live performances on a mainland stage in 11 years and the first reunion with his brothers, the Jackson 5 (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Michael and Marlon) and the Jacksons (Jackie, Marlon, Tito, Michael and Randy) in 20 years. The two evenings will be filmed as a two-hour primetime special for the CBS Television Network to air during the 2001-2002 season.
During the tribute shows, Michael Jackson will debut "Rock My World," his first single in more than five years.
In addition to Michael Jackson, the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons, the following acts are scheduled to appear:
Sept. 7 - Marc Anthony; Bobby Brown; Ray Charles; Deborah Cox; Destiny's Child; Gloria Estefan; Billy Gilman; Whitney Houston; James Ingram; Quincy Jones & the Legends of Jazz including Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Herbie Mann, Les McCann, David "Fathead" Newman, Jimmy Smith, Clark Terry & Cassandra Wilson; Liza Minnelli; Monica; Mya; Jill Scott; Shaggy featuring Ricardo "Rikrok" Ducent & Rayvon; Britney Spears; Tamia; Usher and more.
