Backstreet Boys return to the road without Shaggy
Backstreet Boys --who took a break from touring for several weeks after a group member checked himself into a rehab clinic--return to the road on Friday night (8/24) sans opening act Shaggy.
The opening slot for the tour's remaining dates will be filled by Sisqo, according to promoter Clear Channel Communications.
Shaggy was to have been with the Backstreet Boys for the entire tour, but the tour's postponements caused a conflict with Shaggy's prior commitments, according to a press release from MCA Records, Shaggy's label. A series of September tour dates for Shaggy will be announced soon.
The latest Shaggy album, 2000's "Hotshot," has sold more than 10 million copies to date, according to the label. A new Shaggy album is scheduled for release in December.
Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean checked into a rehabilitation clinic for treatment of depression, anxiety and alcohol abuse in early July. McLean's 30-day treatment forced the group to postpone most of the remaining dates on its summer tour. Some of the affected tour dates--including one in the Los Angeles area--have not been rescheduled.
