Jimmy Buffett back on the road, sets new dates
As Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band open a three-week stint of tour dates that will keep them busy through mid-September, the group has unveiled plans to play six November concerts.
Tickets on-sale information hasn't been announced for Buffett's November dates. All of Buffett's September dates have sold out, according to Clear Channel Entertainment.
Though Buffett, 54, hasn't toured extensively in recent years, his relatively sparse, 16-city run of spring and summer concert dates still ranks as one of this year's most successful outings. According to Pollstar magazine, an average of more than 19,000 fans have attended each of his shows this year, and the shows grossed a total of $13.5 million.
Buffett has long been one of the most dependable draws on the concert circuit. Despite visiting just 24 cities, his 2000 outing grossed $24.1 million, and ranked at No. 18 on Pollstar's list of the year's top-grossing tours. According to Amusement Business magazine, Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band was the sixth highest-grossing touring act of the '90s, taking in more than $166 million and playing almost 400 shows.
A new Buffett album titled "Far Side of the World" is scheduled for release on Oct. 23. The album--his second for his independent label Mailboat Records--was produced by Russ Titleman (Eric Clapton, James Taylor).
On Monday night (8/25), Buffett performed at the Blossom Music Center near Cleveland. He was making up a date that he postponed in June due to illness. According to a review in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, his set list didn't include new material.
In July, Buffett's 1992 album "Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads" (MCA Nashville/Margaritaville) was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of more than 4 million copies.
