Four TV networks, major stars commit to Sept. 21 telethon

Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty and Neil Young will be among the participants in a live telecast to back relief efforts in the aftermath of Sept. 11's terrorist attacks. The program will air simultaneously on the ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC networks on Friday (9/21) from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time.

Also on the initial list of event participants are Bon Jovi, Amy Brenneman, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Dennis Franz, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Hanks, Faith Hill, Alicia Keys, Conan O'Brien, Ray Romano, Julia Roberts, Paul Simon, Will Smith, Sela Ward and Robin Williams. More participants will be announced.

According to a press release, the means and methods for donation will be announced during the program, which will be titled "America: A Tribute to Heroes." All funds raised during the event will go to the relief effort; costs will be underwritten by the networks, and participating artists will donate their time.

The program will be broadcast live in the Eastern and Central time zones and tape-delayed in the Mountain and Pacific time zones.
