While his band Son Volt [ tickets ] is on hiatus, Jay Farrar [ tickets ] will perform a month full dates to support of his solo debut album, "Sebastopol."

The outing kicks off Oct. 8 in Oxford, Miss., and wraps up Nov. 13 in Bloomington, Ind. Farrar and guitarist Mark Spencer--of the now-defunct Blood Oranges--are touring together as a duo.

"Sebastopol" (Fellow Guard/Artemis), produced by Farrar and Jon Agnello, was recorded in Millstadt, Ill., at Jajouka Studios in 2000. The album hits stores on Tuesday (9/25). On the album, Farrar plays acoustic guitar, acoustic baritone guitar, electric guitar, piano, synth and tambura. Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Kelly Joe Phelps all make guest appearances.

Farrar co-founded the seminal alt-country band Uncle Tupelo [ tickets ] with Jeff Tweedy. After four releases in the first half of the '90s, the band broke up. Farrar went on to lead Son Volt, and Tweedy started the band Wilco.
