Jay Farrar plays the club circuit behind his solo debut
While his band Son Volt is on hiatus, Jay Farrar will perform a month full dates to support of his solo debut album, "Sebastopol."
The outing kicks off Oct. 8 in Oxford, Miss., and wraps up Nov. 13 in Bloomington, Ind. Farrar and guitarist Mark Spencer--of the now-defunct Blood Oranges--are touring together as a duo.
"Sebastopol" (Fellow Guard/Artemis), produced by Farrar and Jon Agnello, was recorded in Millstadt, Ill., at Jajouka Studios in 2000. The album hits stores on Tuesday (9/25). On the album, Farrar plays acoustic guitar, acoustic baritone guitar, electric guitar, piano, synth and tambura. Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Kelly Joe Phelps all make guest appearances.
Farrar co-founded the seminal alt-country band Uncle Tupelo with Jeff Tweedy. After four releases in the first half of the '90s, the band broke up. Farrar went on to lead Son Volt, and Tweedy started the band Wilco.
