U2 dates sell out in 10 cities

Tickets went on sale over the weekend for U2 's fall performances in 11 North American cities, and "immediate sellouts" were logged for 10 of the shows, according to promoter Clear Channel Entertainment.

Though quick sellouts are the norm for U2's performances, there was a question as to how the tour's fall leg would fare in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.; ticket on-sales for the tour had been postponed for a week.

Sellouts were announced in South Bend, Ind.; Montreal; Hamilton, Ont.; Chicago; Baltimore; Philadelphia; Austin, Texas; Denver; Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Additional nights were added in Los Angeles and Chicago after the initial dates sold out, and those shows also sold out.

At press time, a few tickets remained for U2's performances at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Those tickets were being sold through Tickets.com outlets and through the venue box office, according to Clear Channel.

Tickets for U2's fall performances in Providence, R.I.; Oakland, Calif.; New York City and East Rutherford, N.J., will go on sale between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1. Details can be found in the itinerary below. A limited number of pre-sale tickets will be available to registered members of U2's official website beginning on Thursday (9/27); check the U2 site for details.

Registered members of U2.com will have a chance to participate in an Internet pre-sale scheduled to begin on Thursday (9/27).

The opening acts for the fall leg of U2's Elevation tour will be Garbage (in South Bend, Montreal, Hamilton, Chicago, Baltimore and New York City), Stereophonics (in East Rutherford, Providence and Philadelphia) and No Doubt (in Austin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas).
