Jo Dee Messina hits the road for more headlining dates
SEPT. 26, 3:38 P.M. ET Jo Dee Messina is poised to resume her headlining tour of the U.S. next week, beginning with a Tuesday (10/4) concert in Virginia. The country singer, who has been on the road for most of 2001, has lined up 21 dates, primarily at theaters and mid-size venues, that will keep her on the tour circuit through mid-December.
In addition to her upcoming concerts, Messina is also scheduled to appear at the Nov. 7 CMA Awards in Nashville, which will be broadcast live on CBS, and she will sing the national anthem at the Nashville Titans’ Dec. 30 football game, according to her official website.
Messina is touring in support of last year's "Burn" (Curb), which features the current single "Bring on the Rain," a duet with Tim McGraw, who co-produced "Burn" with Byron Gallimore. The song is at No. 33 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
The title track from "Burn" peaked at No. 2 on that same chart in February, and "That's the Way," the album’s first single, hit No. 1 on that chart last September.
A New England native who moved to Nashville after finishing high school, Messina has appeared on the bills of the George Strait Country Music Festival and the Judd's reunion tour, among other opening slots. She made her first significant mark on country radio with several songs from her 1998 sophomore release, "I'm Alright," including "Lesson in Leavin'," "Bye, Bye," "Stand Beside Me" and the title track.
